And Skylab- nope they didn't take the $3. I think the whole 'mis amigos estaben en casa ahora' type talk was enough to put them off :)

In hindssight – it was just dumb of me to be wandering around as a tourist at that time of the night. Sometimes my ego just thinks I'm inVINCE-able, when I'm clearly not :)

Something like this happened to me as well. You played it exactly the right way – tell the truth, but back it up with confidence, even if that confidence comes with a minor lie to back it up.

You gotta love public officials in poor countries. :
