A friend from India(Bangalore to be precise). I just loved your post. Especially the Just Do It part. Trust me, doing things without thinking much would truly help in becoming successful. If you start doing the thing that you really dread, you will notice things falling into place.

Cool, eliminating Fear across the board has been a pet project for me for last year.

Two things I've noticed over last year that I didn't see you note:

Most, nearly 100% of Fears are TOTALLY Irrelevant Today". The fear function in us was developed to help us survive. In modern society this just isn't relevant, there is nothing that threatens our survival for the most part. It's an old piece of our internal make-up that has become mismatched with our environment. Everytime we step out of our comfort zone there is a FEAR, or when there is uncertainty before us, there is a fear. It is all irrational.

So my take on it is that if you want to be truly living as you should in this modern society, you really need to eliminate most fear. That would be how to live in adaptation to the environment of today. It would also relieve our resources to worry about real threats - like global warming for example. Instead of letting fear of things that pose no threat to our lives take up our braintime/ energy etc, a more healthy mind would be concerned about global warming, which would drive him to work towards doing something about that - contributing. Think about it - what do the most fearless/ healthy minds of today dedicate their lives to?

2. As you confront and eliminate fears, it seems to have some kind of overall impact on your fear levels. Fear is broader than a specific scenario. So for example if you fear public speaking and you confront and destroy that fear, you will be less afraid of walking down a dark street than you were before (or whatever other fear you may have). Because FEAR isn't connected to a specific subject, that is a rationalization, FEAR is a function of your being and overall life. I've been really surprised by this. I've noticed that I didn't even acknowledge FEAR in some situations where I had before in recent months. I think that is a result of lowering my overall FEAR threshold. So although i never confronted those fears directly, they were eliminated because my fear threshold is lower now.

Neil, I think it's a delicate balance. You have to obviously plan. I am very much into having strategies. But at the same time I think it's how ACTIONABLE the steps are in planning vs just internal dialogue. I have a friend for example who ends up going round and round in circles with internal dialogues and very rarely do I hear him say 'ok, step 1 is x, then step 2, step 3, etc.'

On the other hand I have another friend who whenever he gives me advice, would make them ACTIONABLE.

So I think it's deciding on the optimal course, knowing that it's optimal, and taking the steps to make it happen :)

It's always been a dilemma for me, plan or plan to fail Vs Just Doing. I try to lean towards just doing as I’m sometimes afraid of rationalizing not taking action. On the other hand I wonder if I’m fooling myself by taking sub-optimal action? Confusing. LOL

Thanks Michelle, glad you like it. Breaking up is a tricky subject. Esp if you care alot for this person, it makes it even harder to do. It's an interesting question though wheter that is therefore due to fear of something, or simply because you want the best for both.

Great post Vince! I think fear of outcome is also an internal manifestation of worrying too much about what could happen. I recently went through a break up and was so afraid of what would happen, I procrastinated for about 6 months. This certainly helped me understand it a bit more. :) x
